DocHawk Server™ : How it works

PDF viewing

PDF documents contain a level of complexity which poses challenges that cannot be overcome by the built-in attachment viewer. Documents containing special character sets cannot be read without the help of DocHawk™. Furthermore, zooming impacts readability since the built-in viewer starts out from a very small image of the document. At high zoom levels the readability deteriorates to the extent of blurriness that makes reading the document impossible. Since DocHawk™ pre-processes the document, readability is never an issue.

eFax® Viewing

When viewing faxes, the user wants to move around the page and read a sentence. However, in most cases you are required to go back to the poor resolution stage, move to the desired point, select the "Enlarge" menu item and await another potentially lengthy network transfer.

To read the whole sentence of the text presented below, over thirty clicks and delays are required. Considering how many sentences there are normally in a document, the total click count and waiting time for each click would be too much to bear. The problem compounds with larger documents such as multi-page faxes. For most users, this is not a reasonable way to read an email attachment.

With DocHawk™ you can select your desired zoom level, and browse the whole document at that zoom level with comparably superior resolution.

Spreadsheet Viewing

The viewing of large tables demonstrates another challenge for the BlackBerry® user. In order to view more data in the table, the table access must be clicked and a network transfer takes place.

Once the retrieval has been completed, more of the table's cells appear; however, they continue to appear in a truncated format. In order to get a table cell's full content, each cell must be selected one at a time, clicked and retrieved. Only one complete cell is presented at one time.

To view the content of this table, pencil and paper would likely be needed to record and refer data as a complete row. Since each cell's value must be retrieved independently of one another, the total effort required for this table with fourteen rows and five columns would be 280 clicks.
